We've followed it from the sidelines. The GWA Wingfoil Cup was held from April 28 to May 2. This was the first tour stop of 2021. Held in Leucate, France. It was a bit unreal for us that the Dutch wingfoiler Bowien van der Linden from Noordwijk has put the surf-freestyle part to her name with the ladies. The bigger the congratulations of course! Read more about it in this wingsurf blog.
Apparently still enough wind
The first days there was hardly any wind to hold wingfoil competitions. In the end it was good enough from day 3 to start the games. A race track was set on day 3 and on day 4 it was windy enough for freestyle. It was also the moment for Bowien van der Linden to show how good she is now.
Unprecedented tricks
We are still learning wing foiling and for us, high seas wing foiling is even a bridge too far. All the more respect we have for the wing foilers who have already mastered this. However, the absolute world top is of a completely different level with unprecedented tricks and ultimate control. Check it out for yourself.
Bowien van der Linden, No. 1 Surf-Freestyle
Titouan Galea won the freestyle event for the gentlemen. He won in the final against the now famous Balz Müller. The Netherlands was successful with the ladies. Bowien van der Linden from Noordwijk won! She has thus won this freestyle World Cup for the ladies.
Next tour stop
The purpose of the Wingfoil World Tour is to set up a professional world competition and show the world what wingfoil has to offer. In our opinion, the organization succeeds well in this. The next tour stop is planned from 12 to 15 August on Lake Silvaplana in Switzerland.
