Kitesurfing Brouwersdam. This kite spot in Zeeland offers kite surfers

We now have a special kite spot page. In addition, we specifically focus on kite spots. On the one hand, to put them on and put them in the spotlight. They have often provided us with a lot of pleasure for many years. On the other hand, to provide an explanation about kitespots in the Netherlands and their suitability for kitesurfing, kitefoiling and wingfoiling. Brouwersdam was the first kitespot that we imaged. In this blog you can read everything about kitesurfing at the Brouwersdam, a kitespot in Zeeland.

    Kitesurfing Brouwersdam, kite spot Zeeland

Brouwersdam is located on the sea side, so on the North Sea. As the name suggests, the kite spot is located on a dam. Between Goeree and Schouwen. On the inside of the Brouwersdam is the Grevelingenmeer, where kitesurfing is not allowed. This is backwater. With suitable wind, this is a favorite windsurfing spot of many windsurfers.

For which kite surfers is Brouwersdam suitable?

The Brouwersdam is a suitable kite spot for many kite surfers. Whether you are going to practice with your buddy, have already started kite surfing and want to do freestyle tricks or want to kitefoil. It is all possible. You will of course make sure that you have the right conditions choose.

Beginners take to the water with side-onshore wind (slanting onshore) and onshore wind (from the water directly to the coast). With onshore wind, beginners walk deep enough into the water. But with onshore wind and high water, especially with spring tide, beginners keep a good distance from the dunes and the various beach pavilions. With sideshore (wind parallel to the coastline) wind, novice kite surfers do not go on the water or they stay close to the shore. This is due to the risk of drifting. The Brouwersdam is located in an inlet, so you don't have to expect big waves and strong currents, but you can expect nice surf.

Busy kite spot but always room for every kite surfer

On average there are many kite surfers present at kite spot Brouwerdam in Zeeland. Certainly in the summer period it can be very busy on a beautiful day when the wind is blowing. But the kite spot is so spacious that there is always a place for every kite surfing.

At low tide it is quite a long walk to the water, especially in the middle of the beach. At high tide, the water often gets high, almost to the beach pavilions. You will have to take this into account when you leave things behind on the beach with low tide and rising tide. Furthermore, it is a sandy beach without significant stones or bedding. In any case, shoes are not necessary for this.

Parking, catering, kitesurf shops, campsites ...

Free parking is available throughout the Brouwersdam. Even though it is so busy, there is always a place to be found. In addition, there are several beach pavilions with catering, which are also linked to various kitesurf shops en kitesurfing schools. There are also plenty of campsites in Brouwersdam in the immediate vicinity.

Boarding point for kite foilers and wing foilers

For years there has been a special boarding point for kite foilers and wing foilers. Immediately deep enough to step on. This boarding point is on the north side of the dam, just behind the working harbour.

  • Achensee – Kitesurfing, kitefoiling and wingfoiling on the Achensee in Austria

Achensee – Kitesurfing, kitefoiling and wingfoiling on the Achensee in Austria

The Achensee is considered one of the 5 most beautiful places in Austria. So a tip for those looking for a cool travel destination in Austria. In addition, the Achensee is a large lake. So plenty of room for everything you can think of on and in the water. We immediately think of wind sports such as kite surfing, kitefoiling, windsurfing, wingsurfing and wing foiling. But kayaking, sailing, paragliding and supping are also very suitable activities. In this kitesurf blog you can read and view my findings after a week at Achensee in August.

Beautiful surroundings: lots to see and experience

the Achensee, in Dutch Achenmeer, is literally a beautiful area. The lake that contrasts turquoise against the mountains and the clouds that are constantly in motion make it beautiful to see. In addition, the area offers all the facilities you could wish for in terms of hotels, restaurants and amenities. Nevertheless, everything that is primitive, if you wish, is also at your feet. For example, you can walk for days without seeing much. You can also go mountain biking. Maybe a little less primitive with an e-mountain bike. But the golf courses are also beautiful and inviting. Like a billiard cloth.

    Kiting and wing Achensee

Back to water sports because that's what we're going for of course. To start with, the Achensee is a suitable one kite surfing spot. In addition, the Achensee is also very suitable for kitefoiling. The Achensee is perhaps most suitable for wing foiling. Read why below.

Achensee or Achenmeer – Kitesurfing, kitefoiling and wingfoiling on the Achensee in Austria

    Wind Achensee

Wind in the afternoon starts gusty, then more stable

In the course of the afternoon it often starts to blow on the Achensee. Often between 14.00 and 19.00 pm. Not a stormy wind but a nice breeze with foam heads and that indicates about 20 knots. Excellent wind for kitesurfing, kitefoiling and wingfoiling. Of course also good for windsurfing, wind foiling and sailing, but I will not go into that in this blog.

Wind picks up for kite surfers
Wind picks up. First kite surfers are already going to try it.
It often starts to blow around 14 pm.
It often starts to blow around 14 pm.

The wind often starts in fits and starts during the afternoon. Kite surfers who can't wait will take to all the water at the designated area on the side of Maurach (kite zone Seespitz). However, the wind is still unstable. For example, kites sometimes suddenly fall from the sky. A nice spectacle to watch, but in fact it is a bit of a worry. In any case, we don't do it for that anymore.

Kite foilers often get going first...
Kite foilers often get going first…

When the wind increases kitefoils the kitefoilers are the first to head into the wind. Then the kite surfers get going and the first jumps are shown to the public. That's enough in the summer, by the way. It is a nice corner for it, but my experience is that the wind remains fairly gusty here. There are also some obstacles in the water in the form of some tree stumps just under the water.

Days and moments with constant wind

On the days or moments when it really blows, the wind is also a lot more constant and the previous spectacle therefore does not apply. Then you can just jump into the water and have fun right away.

Once on the water it is a wonderful experience. Sublime even. The color of the water and the mountains make it an unforgettable experience. -Danny van Dooren

    Kitezone Uferstrasse

    Water temperature

The Achensee is actually a mountain lake. The water temperature is therefore also low. Wonderful as a refreshment when it is hot but quickly cold when it is cloudy and at low temperatures. The correct wetsuit thickness is therefore important. The ground is made of stones and pebbles. You can go kitesurfing with bare feet, but if you are still often looking for ground under your feet, then shoes are recommended.

Kitesurfing and wing foiling boarding places

At other locations where the wind blows well over the lake, you will also see kite surfers, kite foilers and wing foilers. For example, across from Pertisau (kitezone Uferstrasse). With a small space to take off and land kites, the water is deep quickly and the wind more stable. Those spots make it great for wing foiling. One of the reasons why wing foiling so popular is. After all, you can enter and go into the water from the side. For kitesurfing this requires extra helmsmanship and skills. For example, if an attachment point on a piece of rock has to be used for launching a kite. Some kite surfers don't start there anyway. That is why the designated area for raising and lowering kites on Lake Achen is mainly at Maurach. If there is enough wind, you can cruise and there is plenty of room.

    More info

To kitesurf and windsurf on the Achensee you must have an official license. This can be purchased through the local kitesurf club. on kite club achensee you can also find more information about the customs, rules and activities on the Achensee.

    Conclusion Achensee

I would not recommend going to Achensee especially for a kitesurfing holiday or for wingfoiling. There are more wind certain destinations with more constant wind and warmer water. But if you go on holiday near the Achensee, I would definitely take your equipment with you. Maybe I would recommend the wingfoil material even more than kitesurf or kitefoil material. This is because wing foiling at the Achensee is very accessible and it is easy to start. Once on the water with wind, it is a wonderful experience for kitesurfing, kitefoiling, wingsurfing and wingfoiling. Sublime even. The play of clouds, the color of the water and the mountains make it an unforgettable experience. In addition, it is a beautiful area that has a lot to offer.

  • On the way to Olympic kitesurfing Paris 2024

On the way to Olympic kitesurfing Paris 2024

In June 2021 there was good news for the Paris 2024 Olympic kitesurfing and sailing. The Olympic Commission (IOC) announced a favorable decision for the Olympic sailing competition in Paris 2024. Mixed Offshore sailing and Mixed Kiteboarding were definitively removed from the Olympic program, but there was something beautiful in return. Namely, that a medal is made available for both men and women. This applies to the kitefoil discipline 'Formula Kite' as well as to the sailing category '470 Dinghy'.

Match form Olympic kitesurfing Paris 2024 adjusted XNUMX

The mixed relay, the so-called 'mixed relay', was thus replaced by Olympic kite foiling with both a competition for men and women. In the newly chosen form, men and women each have their own competition. The belief is that this creates a wider and stronger field at the highest level for both women and men.

The fact that we go from one to two medals with kite foils is of course wonderful. The country teams will now focus more on the individuals for development and progression from the team perspective.

  • Kitefoil tips for novice kitefoilers: weight forward

Kitefoil tips for novice kitefoilers: weight forward

It may be difficult for bystanders to understand that kite foiling is a different skill than kite surfing. You would probably think: “kite in the air and sail away like you kitesurf”. However, the opposite is true. You can find a number of general kite foil tips about this in the kite foiling manual.

    Kitefoiling versus twintip kitesurfing

One of the main differences is the distribution of your weight on the board. This ensures that the correct pressure is transferred to the hydrofoil. You must of course lift this out of the water, but then it must remain flat in the beginning so that you can kite foil on the foil. In the Kite Progression film, this kite foil tip is explained very practically and step by step.

This way you get your weight forward for kite foiling. Through Progress Sports.

    Two kite foil tips

“Shoulders towards the nose of the board and hip forward.” These are the tips in a nutshell. Easier said than done. Because as a kitesurfer with a twin tip mainly lean back and put a lot of pressure on your back leg. So unlearning, while this may have been in your system for years. That's why Progression Sports' kitefoil tips are handy mnemonics to watch and remember.

  • Contact details on each board. Call: your help is needed.

Contact details on each board. Call: your help is needed.

Every day that it is windy we read fellow athletes who are looking for their board after they have lost it on the water. Sometimes we easily count 20 reports of lost kiteboards online. But we can also imagine that wingsurf-boards get lost on the water. That is why we advocate a sticker with contact details on every board. Whether it is a kiteboard, kitefoil board, wingsurf board, wingfoil board, windsurf board or surfboard.

    Prevents unnecessary searching

If the board is not found immediately and people are back at home, the internet is scoured to see if the board has been found by chance. Kite surfers also post as many messages as possible on the well-known sites, forums and social media groups in the hope of finding the board again.

Prevent unnecessary action by emergency services

HVery annoying for the athletes in question because boards are pricey. If your contact details are not on it, it will be a lot more difficult to get the board back. Even more annoying are the messages from the lifeguards or bystanders ashore when a board washes up or is found. They are looking for the owner because he may also be in the water. That is why you always call the KNRM immediately on occasion to indicate that you have lost your board. Read the tips from the KNRM.

  • Duotone magazine 3 is out. Highlights and inspiration

Duotone magazine 3 is out. Highlights and inspiration

The annual Duotone magazine is back. After the first two editions it was quiet at the front but now we can enjoy it again. With 121 pages of inspiration, designed in a unique format with varying paper types, it is once again a beautiful magazine. Interviews, reports and information are supplemented with beautiful kitesurf and wingfoil photos. The supporting visualisations, for example with the technical information, are also clarifying.

Mission Duotone: best material for best experience

The mission of duotone is to make the best material and put the users first. According to Till Eberie, CEO Boards & More, Duotone is all about motivating kiters to have the best possible time on the water, inspiring them to develop and provide them with as much energy as possible. Till specifically mentions kite surfers here, but the Duotone Magazine also brings wingfoiling under attention.

    Highlights Duotone magazine 3

The magazine starts with interviews with the Duotone wave kitesurfing team with a focus on friendship and everyone's interpretation of it within wave kitesurfing. Cool to read how the top wave kite surfers view it and the wave kite surf photos are breathtaking. Then a travelogue about Hood River and the introduction of the young duotone team drivers. Then another cool travel report about Ireland. Later one of Iceland and so on.

    Urban wing foiling

Then a beautiful piece about urban wing foiling. Very appropriate because wing foiling is possible in many more places than kite surfing. We also notice this well in the Netherlands. It can sometimes just be on the water around the corner and that makes wing foils very accessible and popular.

    Focus on innovation

As we are used to from Duotone, the magazine always lifts a corner of the veil about innovation of the material. This edition is about the science and laws behind the material. That you can't just replace material because the properties of a type change. Some interesting examples are given here.

    Lite Surf

'Lite Surf' is the concept we kites on a diet to mention. In addition to becoming lighter, they also become stronger, better and more reliable. Duotone explains the main differences between the standard models, SLS type kites and the new ones D/Lab models. The innovations, together with the six times higher material prices according to Duotone, also drive the price per kite.

    Weight Duotone Neo 10 meters

As stated; innovations should make kites lighter, stronger and more reliable. That the innovations lead to lighter kites can clearly be seen in the following list.

    • Standard kite: 3,0 kilo
    • SLS kite: 2,8 kilo
    • D/Lab kite: 2,5 kilo

    Conclusion Duotone magazine 3

In this blog we have only touched on a few things from the beautiful Duotone magazine. It is a unique magazine. I don't know any other magazines kitesurf brands† So, if you have the chance to like me through your favorite kitesurf shop If you want to get a copy, then this is worth it in my opinion. I expect that the magazine will soon also be available digitally on the website of duotone.
