Goodboards Amnesia Pro review. Anti chop technique works

Goodboard's Amnesia Pro review

Recently I was approached by Goodboards. Whether I wanted to test one of their kiteboard. Just at the right time, because I was planning to write about Goodboards anyway. I discovered Goodboards when I put together the overview of all kitesurf brands. Then when I wrote about it snowkiting and specialized snowboards for that. To top it all off, the ribbed profile of Goodboards kiteboards caught my attention in recent months. Really different from other kiteboards I thought. I therefore did not pass up the opportunity for a Goodboards Amnesia Pro review.

Amnesia Pro with anti chop technique

The Amnesia Pro is a further development of the Goodboards Amnesia. The development has taken place on the sides. This can be seen directly from the rib profile. Goodboards calls this the anti chop technique. In the parking lot I got into conversation with other kite surfers and we discussed the kiteboard very briefly.

Freek called it the technique of a bread knife and with that comment in mind I walked onto the beach.

Specifications Amnesia Pro

For the rest, the Amnesia Pro has the same construction as the Amnesia. For example, the tips are provided with carbon. The kiteboard also has multiple channels. There is also a double row of inserts (screw thread) so that you can attach pads or boots to it. Goodboards produces a whole range of wakeboards, snowboards, splitboards and kiteboards. The technique for a rock-hard and wear-resistant bottom, which is very important for wakeboards, has also been applied to the Amnesia Pro. In addition, the kiteboard weighs 2,6 kilos. That's pretty light.

Unique ribbed profile to preserve ankles, knees and back

Goodboards already had experience with the ripple profile and the associated anti-chop technique. The Goodboards Snake kiteboard is also equipped with it. The ribbed profile should provide easy elevation, more traction, and less strain on ankles, knees and back. My interest was now completely aroused. On to testing the Goodboards Amnesia Pro.

Review Goodboards Amnesia Pro

Goodboard's Amnesia Pro review

Well, that was the theory. Now the water and I really had no idea what to expect. The wind was about 22 knots and had 136 cm at my feet. I weigh about 86 kilos and thus had launched a 12 meter Naish Pivot. Read my findings.

  • When sailing away, the Amnesia Pro actually felt immediately familiar and smooth. I did not expect that from the rib profile in combination with the length and stiffness.
  • The first thing I did was put some pressure on the ridge profile to see what it would do. It felt familiar. I could edge the board very tight and at the same time it didn't feel like I had enormous pressure on my knees or ankles.
  • There was a best chop at sea. The Amnesia Pro handles that very well so that I can increase my speed even more in the chop. Of course I also got spray in my face now. But it felt familiar and under control. So good, in fact, that I was able to do some tricks, even in chop. I don't know if I could have done this so easily on another board.
  • Handling and building momentum for jumps went remarkably well. I estimate a great kiteboard for Big Air in strong winds. This will be the result of the channels and the concave at the bottom of the kiteboard. In addition, the kiteboard is relatively flat at the bottom. I would not dare say whether the rib profile still contributes to this. What I dare to say is that it certainly does not work against it.
  • Walking altitude goes very well with the board. When the wind subsided, I was still able to walk quite well. This despite having taken the short version. As soon as the wind started to blow harder, I walked very and easily high.
  • The board is light and that is how it feels on the water. Playful, forgiving landings, fast transition from side to side and nice in the corners.

Conclusion Goodboards Amnesia Pro review

The Goodboards Amnesia Pro is a board that I will never forget. On the one hand due to the appearance of the ribbed profile. That is unique. On the other hand, because of the feeling: despite being a twin tip, it feels as if you are stepping on the water with a different type of board. You don't know what to expect. Still you can kitesurf away with it. Once on the water, the Amnesia Pro turns out to be a very comfortable and accessible kiteboard. The anti chop technique does its job and that is what sets the kiteboard apart.

Goodboards: European kitesurfing brand

Goodboards announced that series production for this season will be one Boomtag will have. This way the boards can be registered and found. Last year we made a start with the Dutch kitesurf brands by screening. Goodboards do not belong in this list. After all, it is a brand from Germany. However, the contact, the handmade boards in Europe and the vision of Goodboards feel familiar. The Goodboards Amnesia Pro review has been successful.

  1. Hi Len, the board is indeed slightly stiffer and has a moderate rocker. In addition, the board has a number of channels. As you yourself estimate, this makes the board direct and it has a lot of grip on the water. That helps for pop and a good take-off for high jumps. The board has a good grip quickly on landing. I expect through the channels. It is not as stiff as a carbon board but stiff in its kind. Freestyle landings at speed and hard on the water have to be handled well in my experience to absorb the blows. Hopefully this is of some use to you.

  2. Thanks for the review! It is clear that he goes through the chop well! Do you also have some insights on how this board behaves in the waves and surf? Or what it's like to jump very high with it? Is the board stiff at high speed and can you pop with it?

It seems that this board doesn't have a lot of rocker, which of course gives an advantage for upwind and grip in the water, but landing high jumps is a lot harder on your knees. Could a comparison be made with the most well-known boards?

I may be misinterpreting it but from what I read this board seems more for the novice kiter than for the advanced. Their website indicates that it does give the performance of a freestyle board.

I'm just really interested in this board haha!

  3. Thank you for your review! I now know that you think it's a nice plate and that it goes through the chop well! Only what I miss a bit is a comparison with other boards and what the board does less well…
