Rain-X tests kite surfing on GoPro

Test Rain-X with kite surfing on a GoPro

The Rain-X kitesurfing test. WWhoever has a GoPro knows that you can make incredibly cool action photos and videos with it. It is an action camera so we also take it out to sea when we go kitesurfing. Attached to your helmet, with a line mount into your lines or even through your mouth via the mouth-mount or the flotation pad itself. We are now using the GoPro Hero 10 which has a hydrophobic coating on the lens. We used Rain-X successfully with the earlier versions. Read our findings below.

Water resistant lens

However, nothing is more annoying than after a kitesurfing session, of which you thought you had taken beautiful images, to find out that water droplets have kept on your lens. The images are then almost worthless. To avoid this, you can of course get grandma's tip out of the closet by regularly spitting on the lens and then dipping it in the water and holding it upwind in the hope of avoiding water droplets on the lens. You run the risk of being more involved with filming than with kite surfing itself. Let's face it, it's primarily about the fun, not the visuals.

After some orientation online and reading reviews, we ordered a bottle of Rain-X Anti-Rain. Rain-X should be highly water resistant and provide an excellent protection against water. Rain-X is widely used on various types of plastic and glass. We ordered the plastic version. The effect is such that the water transforms into droplets that roll away from the surface. That is ideal on a GoPro for kite surfing you would say.

Kitesurfing with a GoPro with Rain-X. Does it work?

Jah, it works! Watch the result yourself in the recorded kitesurfing video. It really doesn't disappoint. It stands or falls with the preparation and how you apply the product to the GoPro lens. Getting out of the car with your kitesurfing gear and quickly applying a drop of Rain-X anti-rain does not have such a good effect and only has a short-term effect.

Proper application is the key to success

DThe effect and effect will be much better for your entire kitesurfing session if you rub the Rain-X anto-rain on your lens with a soft cloth. We also do it with one finger. Leave it on for a while and then gently wipe the lens with a soft cloth. For example, an eyeglass cloth.

In the photo you can see that my bottle of Rain-X anti-rain does not look new anymore. That's right. The bottle contains 200 ml and if you only use one drop at a time, you can use it for years. You can also choose to use it for other purposes in addition to your GoPro and kitesurfing. For example on windshields of motorcycles, glasses and visors of helmets, car windows and windscreens of boats, etc. All in all, Rain-X does its job well on a GoPro when kitesurfing. So test passed!
