Prolimit wetsuits now with Thermal Rebound and hood for women

Pro-limit wetsuits

The Prolimit winter wetsuits are currently being brought to the attention with due pride. Due pride because Prolimit is traditionally a not very loud brand that also offers kitesurfing equipment such as wetsuits, trapezes and other relevant equipment. Perhaps you can categorize Prolimit as an underdog. Prolimit has been supporting a loyal group of water sports enthusiasts for a long time and continues to develop very hard. In this blog we specifically discuss the hooded wetsuit, the new Thermal Rebound technology and durability. Although I have not tested it myself and I base myself on the information from Prolimit itself. It sounds qualitatively promising and sustainable, like a win-win.

Thermal Rebound technology explained

Thermal Rebound™ (TR) is a technology that Prolimit uses in Vapor, Mercury and Oxygen wetsuits for warmth and heat retention. According to Prolimit's information, TR is a very thin alloy, which is actually a NASA invention from the 60s and is now used for survival blankets. This survival blanket is the extra layer between Zodiac 2.0 and the Airflex 500+ neoprene. After years of testing, we have succeeded in creating a strong bond. Result according to Prolimit: perfect insulation without the wetsuit becoming thicker. And so a 5mm TR wetsuit would easily feel like a 6mm or more wetsuit.

Extras in addition to the best insulation values

If, like me, you are a former soldier or if you have ever suffered from hypothermia, then you know how a survival blanket works. Once wrapped in the blanket, the body heat reflects off the blanket, preserving your body heat. It also helps the so-called wind chill to block.

Then for the freaks about the aforementioned Zodiac 2.0 and Airflex 500+. Airflex 500+ would already have excellent insulating properties because more air is trapped in the neoprene. In addition, the Zodiac 2.0 lining provides extra comfort and insulation on the inside of a surf suit. According to Prolimit, this in combination with Thermal Rebound gives the best insulation values.

Additional benefits would be the stretch and comfort. In addition, this combination is said to be quick-drying. It sounds very interesting and the developments recognizable. As you also read in our correct thickness wetsuit table nowadays quality determines more than just a thickness indication. In addition, the layer effect is a very important element to keep warm.

Prolimit wetsuits sustainable and with FSC certification

As I quoted, certified neoprene has been used in the case of the PF-1 Natureprene series. This wetsuit is said to be made from vegetable rubber derived from sources that are FSC certified. The certified neoprene is laminated with recycled polyester and a liner made from recycled PET bottles. Lamination is done with water-based glue.

In addition, this Prolimit wetsuit would have 20% more stretch and be lighter than before, allowing full freedom of movement.

Hooded wetsuit – With neoprene hood

Then on to my latest discovery when studying the new Prolimit wetsuits. For ladies there is the first hooded wetsuit. This is the Oxygen. A 6/4 women's wetsuit with hood. The Oxygen series is equipped with the previously briefly explained Thermal Rebound (TR). In addition to this special wetsuit for women, Prolimit now also has 3 hooded wetsuits for men in the collection. As can also be read in our manual kitesurfing in winter you lose a lot of heat through the head. Especially in combination with a wet head because you lose heat even faster via water. A hooded wetsuit will help prevent this. View more information on prolimit.com or via one of your favorite kitesurf shops.
