Reedin Supermodel v2 review: 10 findings

Reedin Supermodel v2 review

We've got you one before number of details of the new Reedin Supermodel v2 explained. This was based on available information from various sources including Kevin Langeree himself. We then hoped to be able to test a Supermodel v2 soon to check the points mentioned. No sooner said than done, I seized the opportunity to do this. So hereby the Reedin Supermodel v2 review.

Supermodel V2 Details

Before I give my experience here are the biggest improvements of the Supermodel v2 compared to the supermodel v1.

Same properties for different sizes

The lines on the kite (bridle) have been scrutinized and adjusted. The goal was to give the different sizes of Reedin v2 kites the same properties. This allows you to become even more familiar with the Supermodel v2. Whichever size you choose, the properties should be the same.

Better Reedin performance

The seam of the leading edge housing is positioned differently. This has made the frame stiffer, so that the diameter could also be made slightly smaller. This should lead to the kite being able to fly further into the wind window, so that you can kitesurf even more sharply in the wind, for example. It should also lead to more stability, a lighter kite and a kite that is better suited when the wind blows a little less (low end performance).

Reedin kites: colors Supermodel v2

In addition, the Supermodel v2 comes in three colors: a predominantly gray, black and white. This means that in 2021 there is also a choice of colors. Certainly with the black and gray you will therefore also have less problems with the weathered spot, as we have often seen with the white Supermodel v1, which develops over time on the canvas at the main valve.

Suitable for 'wave' kitesurfing

I got the opportunity to review the Supermodel v2 thanks to Luke Siddre. Lucas has been focusing on 'wave' kitesurfing for a while and uses his Reedin kites for that. The special printed O'Neill version he just owned. The wind was not particularly strong, about 18 knots. Where Lucas was 'wave' kitesurfing 2 meters with his Supermodel v9, I was with my Naish triad 12 meters freeriding.

While the Reedin Supermodel v2 may not be specifically designed for golfing, it can handle it well. Lucas will show you that below. Typical of the Supermodel v2 is easy to 'depower'. This is necessary because, once the kite has brought you onto the wave, you want to continue surfing without the kite continuing to pull on you. You actually expect the kite to be equally powerless so that you can surf the waves.

Freeride session findings Supermodel v2

  • The Supermodel v2 steers as light as a feather and incredibly smooth. The Supermodel v2 also steers very lightly on the water. I felt the kite well.
  • In addition, steering with the light bar pressure immediately felt familiar. I feel the same as with the Supermodel v1.
  • The Supermodel v2 is very stable in the air. The frame did not give a kick during the review.
  • Because the wind wasn't blowing hard and I performed this test with a 9 meter, I was dependent on the speed of the Supermodel v2 and its 'low end' power. This is power that the kite generates at the bottom of its wind range. As you can see this went fine.
  • The Supermodel v2 can be steered quickly, does not stop and pulls far into the wind window where it also remains powerful. This way I could easily walk high and also do tricks.
  • You can see that I can get quite a bit of jump height and power out of the tricks. The downloops on landing are also smooth.
  • Where the Supermodel v1 still built up some indirect power during a jump, which I thought was a minus, this is completely gone with the v2. The distribution of power and transmission felt perfect and real.
  • When turning direction and turning the Supermodel v2, the kite shoots over your head quickly to the edge of the wind window. This is mainly due to the slim profile. It tells me it is a 'high end' kite. This can sometimes cause surprises for kite surfers. However, what I noticed with the Supermodel v2 is that the bar pressure makes it very realistic to feel how the power comes across to the kite surfer. This makes it very easy to control the kite even when steering the kite over the top of the wind window when turning.

Dreamstick Kite Bar 2021

  • The dreamstick kite bar 2021 is a different story. We have already explained a bit about this above. You can see it in the video but grab it in a kitesurf shop. It looks and feels very slim and light. This in combination with the speed and maneuverability of the Supermodel v2 makes the experience with the Dreamstick kite bar 2021 unique. In addition, the Dreamstick is adjustable in both width and line length. I personally like this at a bar.

Conclusion Reedin Supermodel v2 review

Test passed I would say. The indirect bar feel of the Supermodel v1 has been fixed. There is also protection on the kite to prevent the brown stain on the cloth behind the valve that regularly occurred with the Supermodel v1. The Supermodel v2 is available in 3 colors anyway. In addition, the frame does not give a kick and the sailing characteristics are super for kite surfers with an active sailing style. Whether this is 'wave' kitesurfing, kitefoiling and / or other kitesurfing styles. Finally, the Supermodel v2 is fast flying and generates good power. Maybe that's why you can quickly fly it a size smaller than other kites. Unless of course you go for 'big air' with a maximum 'hang time'. Then you just grab your favorite usual size of course.
