In the month of May, kite surfers participate in the Jump4Life fundraiser for the Kite4Life Foundation. We are on a roll, but it can be even better and you can help with that. Kite surfers can be sponsored per meter of kite surfing or per jump throughout the month of May. Any amount of sponsorship is welcome and you can set a maximum that you are willing to sponsor. The idea of the Kite4Life Foundation initiator Baris Soyogul is simple: use the same energy from the 'sponsor run' you used to participate in as a child and translate this into a worldwide kitesurfing event to create awareness and raise money for a good and meaningful cause. .
For (ex) cancer patients and their loved ones
The Kite4Life foundation will use the collected money to teach (former) cancer patients and their loved ones to kitesurf and to bring (back) feelings of freedom, hope and pride into their lives. To achieve this, Kite4Life organizes events and facilitates kite lessons in collaboration with various kitesurfing schools in the Netherlands.
Interview kite surfer and participant Julian
We are in regular contact with Julian. Truly an avid kite surfer who is very involved in our (live) updates on Instagram. The kind of guy who dries his kites in his living room and with whom you would like to be on the water. Nice contact where we also learn from and our blogs improve. Julian is also participating in Jump4Life and we took the opportunity to ask him some questions not knowing that Julian himself has also had chemotherapy.
The kind of guy who dries his kites in his living room and with whom you would like to be on the water.
How did you decide to participate in Jump4Life?
“The event came to my attention through a Kitesurf365 podcast from Adrian Kerr. Initially it was not clear to me exactly how to participate, but Baris was always immediately available to answer questions. I also thought it would be fun to participate, because I also started kitesurfing at the time after having had chemo. And I have a Woo and I keep track of almost everything, it is then a small jump to Jump4life. ”
What does Jump4Life mean to you?
“In the end I do Jump4life for someone else, but it is nice to get out on the water for an extra reason. Usually I do that purely for myself, but now I can indirectly share the fun with someone else in the future. ”
How many meters or vertical meters do you now have?
“At the moment I have 5 km and 89 altitude meters from 674 sessions. Noticeably shorter sessions than normal, but that's because I try more often. Instead of choosing the more windproof session, and skipping the sessions that are not quite there. In addition, I can now also justify it better to start later or to stop earlier to go to the beach. ”
What is your target?
“My goal is to participate. If the wind is nice, try to jump as much as possible and if the weather is less try to make as many kilometers as possible. And finally try to improve that PR. It is therefore a small effort to mean something for someone else. Just like when you help someone or fish a board out of the sea. ”
How can others help you with this?
“If you agree with the goals of this fundraiser or Kite4life in general, you can always donate. You can sponsor me the whole month of May. And you can still participate yourself. ”
What has Jump4Life brought you?
“I notice that I attend more sessions than usual. That I still go and see if the wind really isn't blowing hard enough. In fact, a session this month turned out in such a way that I packed bigger than the wind that eventually blew over the beach. This was one of the best sessions of this month. And you have to keep this attitude: 'just go to the beach'. Maybe it blows and maybe it doesn't, but usually there is always enough wind for the largest kite you have. Kitesurfing is enjoying, just go if you can find the time. ”
Thanks for the interview Julian. And of course a lot of success with the challenge!
