Hhe has been almost a week since five surfers lost their lives practicing their sport. Whether you are a kite surfer, windsurfer, wave surfer, body surfer, sailor or other water sports enthusiast. We all know that the sea is a place that offers a lot of challenge and fun, but at the same time can be unforgivable and a mean bastard.

Overview of the current status

Symbol in memory of deceased surfers
  • A surfer is still missing. He was identified at sea but not recovered.
  • Research is ongoing as to how this drama could have happened.
  • The surf community will commemorate the deceased surfers in a circle at sea, a so-called ritual 'paddle out'.
  • The logo with the five fish 'In memory of those we have lost' is widely shared and will be given a permanent place.
  • Surfers are now surfing at Scheveningen again. Others, not just Scheveningen surfers, have taken the time to digest the drama.

Hhe research will have to reveal definitively how the surf drama could have happened. Until now, it has been assumed that the 'girl sop', as the annual sea foam in May is also called, played a role in the drama. The wind shifted from northwest to northeast, blowing the foam on the beach back into the sea. The downwind current, spring tide and relatively strong winds made the conditions what they were at the moment.

Our thoughts again go out to the loved ones of the one concerned and we wish them all the strength and strength in coping with this loss.
