Small or wide stance

Small or wide stance?

The way you stand on your board is personal. Still, you can generally follow two guidelines.

The first is your own height and the second is what type of riding style you have. You can of course get started with these two guidelines, but what is the difference between small and wide stance?

Small is more suitable for the freeriders among us, where making tasty racks is central. The wide stance is more suitable for freestyle kiters. The general rule is that wide stance puts more stress on the knees.

The differences:

Small stance.

  • Less stability
  • Leisurely curves
  • Less pop

wide stance

  • More stability
  • More radical turns
  • More pop

Tip: try out the different lengths between the foot pads on your board. The most recent boards usually have 3 positions, namely:

Small for people up to approx. 1.70 cm

Normally for people between 1.70 cm and 1.85 cm

Wide for people over 1.85 cm

(This is just an indication)

Don't say it is nothing within 10 minutes, but first sail for a whole day. Only then can you judge which stand is suitable for you! Suc6.

  1. … .. it's nothing at all ……

But it is indeed the first day to carry around to get used to the stance. After a few hours you are completely used to it and the differences are clearly noticeable.
All-wide is generally a bit more tiring due to more load on the limbs, but the landings are noticeably more stable and the pop better.
Furthermore, a variable stance option is ideal for tuning your board to personal wishes.
