Less wear on depower line / fifth line

The power lines and fifth lines can wear out very quickly due to frequent back and forth through the bar. You can slow down this process by keeping these lines clear of sand. You do this by rinsing the lines before you go on the water. Yet this is not a durable solution against wear and tear. What really helps is the well-known 'sex wax' among wave surfers. We give you an explanation!

Prevent wear and tear on your depower fever

Background

For example, replacing the depower cord can be quite pricey because the depower cord on the kitebar is inextricably linked to other parts at some kite brands, such as the 'chicken loop' and the depowerstrap. As a result, a set must be purchased and that can run into prices.

'Sex wax' is used by surfers. If the wave surfboard is rubbed with this on the places where the wave surfer is standing, this gives extra grip on the board for the feet.

Health Benefits

The moment you apply this to your depower line or / and fifth line, it will become very smooth after use. The wax fills in the irregularities of the line and a smooth homogeneous line is created that runs easily through the bar and becomes more durable.

Purchase

You can buy sex wax at surf shops, skate shops and kiteboard shops. There are several brands in circulation. Simply ask for the stuff you put on your wave surfboard and the seller will know exactly what you mean. The costs are approximately 2,50 Euro.

Sex wax comes in different colors. Buy the 'green' version of Sexwax. This fits best with our temperature. You can also work with melted candle wax.

Apply

    1. Rub your depower line and / or fifth line with the Sexwax. Pay attention! Use an old piece of wood or something similar as a substrate so that you don't make a mess. You don't have to untie the lines.

    2. Go kiteboarding and use the line intensively, it is intended for this!

  1. Here you see the result after using the lines; smooth and wear-resistant lines that last a lot longer than normal.

  2. If you want an even better result, repeat the previous steps regularly. With one block of Sexwax you can move forward in any case.

Pay attention! Despite this prevention, keep regularly inspecting your depower line and / or fifth line for wear. The use of Sexwax or candle wax makes any wear more difficult to identify.

  1. I have never used the sex wax, I have a different way.
I always dip the line in a jar of warm candle wax, the line then sucks completely.
    i think it works well.
1 thing you have to do when the candle wax has just melted and not let it boil completely and then the line in because then it is so hot that the line also kind of melts.

  2. My North bars from 2004/5/7 always had the lines waxed. Waxed the bridge lines on my bandit. Indeed. sand and rubbish remains in it, but my experience is that it disappears just as quickly.

I have tested it several times and it really reduces wear and tear significantly. At North 2007, for example, the first SS line was already through after 5 sessions. The new one immediately waxed well, and it lasted a whole season.

  3. Always waxed my depower cord in 2004. 2005 no longer done with Raven and noticed little difference in wear.
Now I have new material every year, so perhaps one year is not enough to make a comparison, but for me the cord only needs to last for a year.
Since I started running it becomes clear in 1 x what an attack that is on the depower cord, unfortunately wax cannot slow this down either.

  4. To my knowledge and experience so far it works Fer. But it depends on the bar and keeping the lines as sand-free as possible. If there is a burr in the bar house through which the line runs, you can use anything but the line will wear out very quickly.

  5. Years ago, the depower cord was always waxed, but did not notice any difference in wear and tear compared to an unwaxed depower cord. In fact… grains of sand stick to the waxed cord and are pressed into it.
Keeping the depower cord sand-free by rinsing it in the water before each session is the best remedy for wear and tear.
You will have to look for possible causes of wear on the depower cord at the hole through the bar. Especially with kitelooping, the depower cord has to last a lot. The edges of the hole through the bar will bite into the cord if the bar is at an angle to the cord. In addition, a thick peak load during the loop itself. The sliding stoppers on double depower cords also cause extra wear when walking with the bar against the stopper.
My opinion is that if more attention is paid to the construction of the hole in the bar, the excessive wear of the depower cord can be reduced.
