161 km on the open ocean

A team of 9 kite surfers was tasked with crossing 161 kilometers and fighting the open ocean!

The start of this two-day adventure was at the end of July. The channel between Maui and O'ahu was crossed for the first time while kitesurfing.

The crossing was not without danger as it is a treacherous stretch of ocean at that time of the year. The wind can be very gusty and sharks were present due to the passage of a number of feeding areas. “You definitely don't want the wind to die off when you're near those areas”. - Leader of the expedition Paul Franco.

The 100 mile route was completed in two days with a planned stopover on the island of Molokai. The crossing went smoothly. The only thing that was really against was the air drills of the air force. As a result, the team had to learn much further from O'ahu than expected.
