Review: Kitesurfing with UGO Line Mount and GoPro

Kitesurfing review UGO Line Mount

Whe has a GoPro knows you are there cool action photos and videos can do with. It's an action camera, so we also take the GoPro out to sea when we go kitesurfing. Attached to your helmet or with a line mount in your lines or even through your mouth via the 'mouth-mount'. The latter is how we use it the most. In this review: kitesurfing with UGO line mount and GoPro.

We have used a line mount several times in the past period. There are at least two Dutch kitesurfers on Instagram who continuously post super cool kitesurfing videos where they film themselves from the lines with a GoPro. check David VanBreukhoven en Kite.Surf.Skate.Board yourself for a while. After some research, we find out that a good line mount is one that doesn't get your lines caught easily and that stays as stable as possible between the lines. We do not compromise on safety because that is rule 1: as a kite surfer, your gear is in tip-top shape. So you just have to be able to use the Quick-release (emergency safety system) and the chance that lines get stuck behind the frame of the GoPro holder must be as small as possible or even excluded. Thus we arrived at the UGO linemount.

Mounting the UGO line mount

Attaching the UGO line mount with GoPro to the lines. See how it works with the sliders.

Mounting the UGO line mount with a GoPro on your lines is fairly easy and fast. You actually slide the UGO line mount over your middle lines, after which you hold the UGO line mount in place with slides. A line runs freely through the UGO line mount so that you can continue to use your Quick-release. A point of attention is the correct height of fastening. Once your kite is in the air with line-mount and GoPro, you can see if the middle lines run neatly in a 'V' via the UGO line mount or if this is too forced. If this is forced, you have to move the UGO line mount slightly until the lines continue their way to the kite through the frame as naturally as possible.

Filming with a UGO line mount and a GoPro: settings

You can see how beautiful the images are. And these are just our first few seconds. When you walk to the water with your kitesurfing set, it still looks a bit choppy, but as soon as you kitesurf the image is super stable. The GoPro stabilizer does its job, of course, but the UGO line mount is also known for swinging less between the lines than its competitors.

Ready for kitesurfing action. The line mount works fine with the GoPro Hero 9.

We had the setting of the GoPro on 'wide' and not on 'superview' (even wider). Next time we will immediately try 'super view' because you can see that we are not completely in the picture.

Disassemble the UGO line mount

This is difficult on the beach. The line that is clamped with the yellow slide can sometimes hardly be released. We often need another object to get it moving. Line thicknesses of kitesurf lines are sometimes different and for this UGO supplies 3 line guides of different thicknesses. Advice is not to put the lines too tight in the line guides. This makes the line a little less tight, the line mount still stays in place and it can also be demented fairly easily.
