Rockanje - More than just a bathing beach

The message below was in the AD on Monday 06 October 2008. We can see this as a positive development. We often see negative reports about spots closing. Now kite surfing is made more accessible!

ROCKANJE - Kite surfers, windsurfers, riders and drivers are welcome again on the beach of Rockanje. Beach pavilions must also be given space. By relaxing the rules, the municipality of Westvoorne wants to make the beach attractive to visitors, even in the low season.
Nowadays the water sports enthusiasts have to divert to the beach of Oostvoorne. The capacity of this beach is in danger of being exceeded if the Slufterstrand closes for the construction of Maasvlakte XNUMX.

At the beginning of 2010, a new management plan will be drawn up for the Voornes Duin nature reserve, which includes the beaches of Rockanje. That is an opportunity to implement a relaxation of the rules. The city council has yet to agree to the recommendations.

In it, the municipality points to the growing popularity of kite surfing, and suggests kite surfing all day in the low season and in the high season (April 1 to October 1) before eight in the morning and after six in the evening. to stand. This should also apply to wind and wave surfers.

The municipality also wants to open the beach to riders and drivers. Horse riding is now officially prohibited, although it is allowed to turn a blind eye on the former car beach. As far as the municipality is concerned, riders and drivers must be able to ride in one go from the Brielse Gatdam over the beach to the Haringvlietdam. In the high season they will have to go out early or in the evening in the saddle, because the beach remains for the bathers during the day.

Equestrian sports are given plenty of space outside the summer months. With this, the municipality wants to keep the beaches attractive for all beach recreationists all year round.

The five catering pavilions and a sixth pavilion in the 'armpit' of the Haringvlietdam, for which plans are in the works, must be able to place flexible or mobile canopies on their terraces for the 'lesser months'.

The municipality also wants them to have more space for organizing events.
