There are kitesurfing schools that specifically offer lessons and courses for women. The emphasis can be on learning basic skills in a comfortable and supportive environment. Of course this should always be the case with kitesurfing lessons, but sometimes the preference is a female kitesurfing instructor or a class with other girls. Classes can also be a little more focused on building confidence and encouraging women to embrace the sport.

Women kitesurfing

Additionally, there are numerous female kitesurfers who are prominent in the professional kitesurfing scene, and they act as a source of inspiration for women interested in the sport. It is important to emphasize that kitesurfing is accessible to everyone, regardless of gender, age or background, and that women can experience just as much fun and success as men in this cool water sport.

Kitesurfing for women: choice of equipment

Correct size kite

Naturally, you wonder which size kite is suitable for you in which wind. There is a lot of choice and it may all seem a bit complicated, but it is not that bad. Your weight, wind force and gusts are the most important points to consider when choosing the right size kite.

A nice wind force to start kite surfing, practice and kite surfing is between 14 - 21 knots (wind force 4 - 5). Very experienced kite surfers even go on the water at more than 27 knots (wind force 7).

Women are often a bit lighter than men, which is why as a woman you automatically often need a smaller kite. Check out the dedicated blog and table to take a look what size kite you need.

Type of kite

Are you not that strong? That's no problem. Then go for a kite with slightly lighter pressure on the bar. We call this bar pressure. These types of kites are easy to fly with little force.

Kitesurfing for women: special kiteboard

Kitesurfers with a smaller foot as well as women and children with a small foot size prefer to choose a less wide kiteboard. This way they can also position the foot straps so that the heel side is more against the edge of the kiteboard. This helps them to put good pressure on the edges, but also to be able to turn turns and kitesurf toeside. A ladies kiteboard and/or kiteboard for children is often more flexible than a normal kiteboard. With less weight and a smaller base size, a flexible kiteboard is easier to control.

Wetsuit for women

You also need a special women's wetsuit. As in our correct wetsuit thickness table, quality nowadays determines more than just a thickness indication. The layer effect is a very important element to stay warm. View in the wetsuit manual what thickness you need at what temperature.

Kitesurfing harness for women

Kitesurf harnesses are basically unisex. There are special trapezes for women. What makes these trapezes special are often the cool colors and more elasticity in combination with softer parts. So more comfort.

What else you need for kitesurfing does not depend on being a woman or a man. Check us out for that kitesurfing material explanation.
